Rising Norwegian cross-country skier Lars Heggen from Norway is using the summer to prepare as best he can for an exciting new season. From long rides on scenic roads and training sessions with teammates to his ambitions for the World Championships in Falun, Lars shares insights into his training, motivation, and life beyond the tracks in our summer interview #5.

What are this year’s milestones in your summer training?
This year, my main focus is to continue developing as a cross-country skier and become an even stronger distance skier than I was last season, while still aiming to remain among the very best sprinters.
What is your favorite off-season training?
My favorite off-season training is definitely road cycling. I enjoy covering a lot of ground, riding fast, and exploring scenic routes around home. It’s a great way to build fitness while having fun.

Do you have a favorite training buddy, and why?
My favorite training partner must be Filip Skari. He’s a fantastic skier and constantly pushes me to raise my level. I also have to mention my girlfriend, Milla. Training with her is always enjoyable, and she brings a lot of energy to every session.

How is your favorite way to recharge for next season during summer?
During the summer, I like to recharge by spending time with friends and taking a trip somewhere warm. It’s a great opportunity to relax, unwind, and return to training with renewed motivation.
What are your holiday plans for this summer?
This summer, I don’t have many plans outside of training. The past few months have been busy, so I’m looking forward to being at home, training with my team, and continuing to develop as a skier.

What are your goals for the next season?
My main goal for next season is the World Championships in Falun, Sweden. I hope to qualify for the sprint event and potentially other races as well. Another major goal is to perform consistently in the World Cup and prove that I am a strong all-round skier.
